The hottest day of the hottest year in Melbourne

Well, we picked a good day to arrive! It was 41.1 degrees in Melbourne yesterday. Our plane landed at 12:30pm, D picked us up and we headed home after a busy holiday in Sydney!

We set down our bags and after an hour or so D took the two of us out for coffee and desert at Brunetti's - a dessert institution here. The shops refrigerator stretches far and there are over a hundred sweets to choose from - we shared three. Yum! After our afternoon treat, D took us around the city to show my mum a few highlights. The car was air-conditioned otherwise I don't think we would've lasted as long as we did!

Later in the day, D invited a handful of friends over for a few drinks before midnight. Mama went to bed around 10pm and we headed out to the city to mix with the crowd and watch the fireworks. We managed to position ourselves for a decent view and awed at the 10 minute show; we had a drink afterwards with our little crew of friends and afterwards headed home.

It was a very mellow New Years but I celebrated it with my mum and D which is all that mattered to me this year.
