Today we visited the Blue Mountains, situated two hours by train west of Sydney. Why is it called The Blue Mountains? Well....
The Blue Mountains was given its name because when the oil from the Eucalyptus trees mixes with dust particles from a distance and the sun hits it, it looks blue....anyhoo....
We arrived in Katoomba, the main town in the mountains, just after 12pm and soon after caught the explorer bus to make our way around the mountain. We disembarked at the Katoomba Cascades, to take a look at the waterfall and to check out the viewpoint looking over the rainforest. After a few photos there and the walk back mama called-it-a-day on the hiking and we re-boarded the bus for more sightseeing.
After skipping a few very busy tourist stops, we arrived at (pic above) the Three Sisters lookout (and Plaza) and Jamison Valley. It was a gorgeous view though we had to share it with about two hundred others, who, like us, rode a bus around the mountain.
Nearing the end of our trip we had a very nice late lunch at Cafe Bon Ton in Leura, another town in the mountains, and afterwards checked out a few shops before catching the train back to Sydney.
The train was much busier on the way back and we almost missed out on getting seats. Thankfully we managed to find two singles and I ended up sitting next to a very friendly Tibetan man/Australian resident whom I chatted with on the two-hour trip back.
The Blue Mountains was certainly a pretty, worthwhile place to visit and the landscape is quite different from what we have in B.C., though, mama and I agree that Canada is better ;)
Tomorrow we plan to hit the Northern Beaches - they are a little harder to reach and hopefully a little quieter. We are discovering more and more each day how busy Sydney is!
