Home inspections are done very quickly here. Most rentals are posted on the internet with photos and descriptions then the real estate agents open up those homes for 15 minutes on a chosen day so renters can take a look. You're out of luck if you're late!
On Saturday I organized my morning around six houses/units to view. Out of the six I liked three, though two were a bit small for a family of four. My favorite was a renovated 3-bed house (though more like 2-bed and a den) with one toilet room, a newish kitchen, another room with the shower and sink, separate laundry, new carpeted bedrooms, walnut hardwood flooring in the main areas, and a big yard with a back deck. The negatives are it's over our price range, it's on a very busy road and has no central heating (which makes it freezing in winter!).
There's not too many decent sized houses in the area we're interested in living within our budget allowance. The real estate agents here love their wide-angle lenses as well, making rooms look twice their size, so inspections can often be disappointing.
On Friday B put in a formal request to work out of the Bendigo office so moving to 'the country' is back on the table. There you can get a 3-bed home with a huge yard for $200 less a week. Where we end up, who knows, but decisions need to be made very quickly as our lease runs out November 15th!
