My Summer Holiday, Part II: I ♥ NY!

B and I had a FANTASTIC time in NY! Though we took about half the trip to get over our jet lag (and even missed a full day from sleeping), we didn't miss much.

We stayed at a very cool, VERY funky new hotel called The Standard in Chelsea which has been built above The High Line - New Yorks newest, coolest park. Our room had a floor to ceiling window with a view to the Empire State building - we chose the perfect place to stay!

On our first day, we were up and at 'em by 6:30am and our first
stop was the Empire State building. As soon as it's doors opened we were some of the first people up there (and no line-ups!!) and the views were amazing - the scale of this city is unreal!

During our five days in NY we saw just about everything. With VERY sore feet we walked most of the major streets in NY, around Central Park, the Chrysler building, the Top of the Roc(kerfeller) for a night view, Times Square, Wall street, walked across the Brooklyn Bridge and around Brooklyn, ate Sylvia's delicious soul food in Harlem and took a jet boat out for a closer look at the statue of liberty. We even made a few friends who invited us to check out the views from their NYC apartment - it's amazing from all sides!

For other entertainment we went to see an insane theatre show called Fuerza Bruta. The audience was on it's feet for 70 minutes moving around (a moving) set and looking in front, behind and above at the actors running on treadmills, on walls, on moving vertical props and sliding on watered down see-through trampolines! It was crazy, and almost too energetic after a day of walking around, but a great NY experience!

To me walking around NY feels like being on the set of Sesame Street. I love all the architecture and old brownstone buildings, the greenery, the lively energy, the public spaces, the cheap bagels, and all of the friendly people we came across who were willing to help, chat and give local advice. All in all we LOVE NY and will definitely be going back!
